The most memorable quote from the movie, Bridges Over Madison County, about a housewife and how her four-day love affair with a man questions everything she had come to expect from life. I am not comparing my life to hers, but there are similarities in her that every woman experiences, including my own, when they dedicate their livelihood to building a life around everyone except their own.
What is it worth to throw away your existence to find a new one in hopes of reconnecting with who you used to be?
When he looks at you, it’s without judgments, except that he is looking at a woman. For all that you are to everyone else – to him you’re just a woman that he wants.
You are a stranger to him and when he speaks, you don’t want to miss the opportunity to listen. You never know when you will have that moment where he thinks you are the most interesting person, so you are captivated by his thoughts. Even when he has little to say, when he does, his words are that more genuine.
The thought of seeing his face is an adrenaline rush, a euphoria you can’t reach from any drug. Your heart starts beating and your palms become sweaty. You want to hold back but he leans in and kisses you and you lose all control. Every time you close your eyes all you can think about is his hands taking your face and pulling it closer to his, the sweet taste and the smell of something so pure that can never be duplicated.
Feelings are subject to change, and we all evolve in many ways at different times. The message I got from Bridges Over Madison County was that you shouldn’t be afraid to live out your feelings but have some realistic expectations. Fear can hold you back from being open to “kind of certainty comes but once in a lifetime”. But you can also be at the other end and be that person holding back someone from moving on to love someone else if you are not ready to love them completely and unconditionally.
If you bruise easy and you are clumsy with your heart then move along.
